Trouble with Windows XP home network

I have a Windows XP professional and Windows XP home edition PC. Both can surf the net behind the router. I have turned off both personal firewalls on each PC.

I can ping from each computer

From one PC I can map to the other PC with NET USE \\192.168.1.140\ipc$ /USER:Administrator and access the shares. However the home edition PC cannot map with IP address. I get an error message stating that "Network path cannot be found"

Both Computers see the work group in Windows Explorer, but neither can see either PC including itself in Windows Explorer. I get an error with saying "workgroup name not accessible. You may not have permission to use this network source."

I have added the host name to the Host file

Any ideas to help me get the home networking to work?

Are both computers in the same workgroup? it seems like you know what your talking about.. Or you have bee reading a lot. Right click my computer and click workgroup (under the general tab).. by default it is supposed to be workgroup, it can be anything though, as long as they match. Also under the netowrk connection make sure there is file and printer sharing installed as a service. That work?

also are you sure that you have the internal IP address correct for the other machine, if they are both on the same workgroup then xp will resolve the computer name to the ip addy, so you can just type
NET USE \\computer name\ipc$ /USER:Administrator
or just
\\computer name\
in explorere (to see the public shares)

So you can browse them you just want to be able to see an icon that shows te pc...
