Trouble with opening ports

Hi, Currently i have a modem from my ISP http://www.amazon.com/Netopia-CAYMAN-3381-ENT-CABLEDSL-3346-ENT/dp/B0000A1EDK and a router that i bought for wireless internet(Linksys WRTG45 wireless router)

I assume that the modem from my ISP is a modem and not a router, but it doesnt have a pinhole function, not sure if it works tho. Anyways i'm trying to open some ports, on the linksys router i got to gaming and application and open the nessecary ports, but when i try to use those ports they are not working.

What might be the problem and how do i fix it? the linksys got the latest firmware, and the modem got the firmware from the isp so i cant change it. Thanks for the help.

What ISP do you have? I've tried in the past to poke holes through my router at home and have had no luck with three different routers. I think the isp is blocking ports from their side.

I got FCI broadband, part of bell in Canada, not sure if u know it. Its not the isp though because when i unplug the linksys router the port forwarding is working fine. I tried to forward ports on both, but it doesnt work.

How are you going about forwarding your ports? Are you doing it in the applications and gamin section of the setup page? If so, is your connection on a constant ip address because if it is automatic detect, your ip changes time to time or constantly and forwarding an ip address you have today may not be the same tomorrow.
