Trouble Setting Up Network At Home.

Hello, my mate has a problem with setting up two of his computers to use the internet (Win Xp). He has them connected with all wires plugged in through a router, and into the modem. Everything is turned on. The problem is one connects and the other one does not. Do the drivers for the router have to be installed on both computers?

Does anyone have any ideas on how to get it working?

there are nor drivers for the computer to see the router. I would check and make sure the computer that is not working doesnt have an ip specified in the network properties.

what does he have to do if the computer does have an ip in the network properties?

click the box which says Ip address obtained from host.. Or something close to that. It basically ghosts out the area where the IP was entered before.

are there any other things that may get in the way? the second computer just isnt working.

its my mate, i beleive its a BT Voyager of some description

are the firewalls on the computers blocking the connection??
can both computers connect to the internet through it?
can you ping the computers?
