Transferring Files

I'm about to buy a new computer and don't know what my best option is for transferring files from the old one to the new one. I've heard about software that specializes in this. Any ideas?

Or another way is by creating a network and sharing you file and then opening it up from your new computer and putting it on thier. Setting up a network is easy and free.

network cards are like cd drives anymore. It's hard to find a computer without one and if you don't have one, they cost less then $10. A couple feet of crossover cable is also cheap. You can't get much simpler then plugging the cables in and running the network wizard. Then drag and drop....

is the new pc sata or pata ?

even if the new hd is sata, you can disconnect one of the pata cdrom drives.

DL this program and install on your NEW pc

http://www.4-software-downloads.com/program_details/1313

create a folder on your old pc called " back up" or whatever...
back up your internet explorer favorties to this.
if you use outlook or outlook express. export your pab, pst, csv , account settings, mail...etc to this folder
also do a back up of quicken or ms money to this folder
and what ever other progs

then on the new machine in \\documents and settings
click the + sign next to all users, then highlight desktop...go to files and create a new folder called old data

power down the pc connect you old HD the the secondary ide port, then you do not have to set any jumpers, or if sata , unplug both cdrom and plug hd id

then use the program ADC to compare the old HD with the empty folder old data ...will copy the whole contents of your HD to old data...and at your leasure you can go through and delete what you do not want or drag data to new locations....also make sure to really disenfect your old pc really good.
when you do the compare with ADC make sure you do ..with subdirectories.
