today i formed a hatred for the maximus II formula...

Today i rebuilt a DVR server for a gentleman's club. I had the original server, stocked with an asus maximus formula II motherboard, intel core 2 quad q9450, 4 gigs ddr2 6400, few hot swappable drives, and windows server 2003. First thing i had to do was put in new harddrives and install a fresh copy of server 2003 to the raid... sounds good for the start. popped in the driver cd that came with the motherboard... wouldnt open due to incompatible os. searched for 3 HOURS to find xp drivers that worked for the com card, the ancient x1650 video card, and then lan. had one piece in device manager that was unknown, could not figure out what it was. for the chipset, i had to use generic ones provides by the os, because nothing from asus was compatible.

thats part 1. part 2 was worse.... threw it all into a new coolermaster case because the owner didnt have a rackmount. hardware-wise, nothing changed. everything was hooked up exactly the same, just in a new case. immediately, the motherboard didnt recognize the raid. had to rebuild it 3 times, after every shutdown... it couldnt find the raid. and it was intel's matrix too..

soon enough i thought screw it, and pushed the clear cmos button on the back panel of the motherboard. rebooted, found the raid immediately. we were pissed. got into windows, rebuilt the raid, it restarted... lost the raid. reformatted drives, set them in raid in bios, got into windows made sure the raid was lettered right, rebuilt it in windows...bingo, somehow it decided to work again... and stayed working

this computer was supposed to ship out today, now its shipping out tomorrow (if it stays stable). going to put in a rocketraid card and hope it makes things better, then ship her to new york

story conclusion... what kind of a retard chooses a high end gaming motherboard for something as little as a dvr server? AND run server 2003 on it?

okay, rant over. had to clear that out of my mind, drove me nuts today...

A retard

LOL

I dont know why people use such high end mobo's with such lowend software/cpu

I have seen way too many reviews on newegg of people buying $180-200mobo's and only using an amd 610 and not even oc'ing!! Whats the point? Why not take advantage of the high end components?

yeah.. seriously. why do it?

but that wasnt even my main aggravation... it was the fact that they chose a motherboard that doesnt have compatible drivers with the os, AND after spending all that money, they didnt want us to install a raid card, which is dirt cheap... so the raid built on the onboard intel matrix controller is totally unstable. tomorrow we are installing a raidcard anyways...

honestly, not only is the board total overkill price for the use, its completely incompatible and hardly does the job.
