If you want to keep your system running smoothly then you need to quit using utorrent to download movies. Using torrent software will get you infected real easy.

Torrent software will not "get you infected real easy" as john said. Anyone with half a brain can learn what seems safe and what doesn't seem safe when it comes to downloads. I don't even run an antivirus on my computer and I have zero problems. Regularly cleaning out your computer and keeping an eye on system processes as well as generally being aware of what's on your computer is really all you need. Don't listen to people who automatically assume that torrents = viruses.

Also, if you want your laptop to be EXTRA fast, then you should ditch the hard drive and install an SSD. Computers love SSDs.

Your assuming there... When somebody see's that they can get something Illegal for free, then they will do it. But most people like this don't realize its very easy to get infected if you don't know what you are doing.

Although torrents don't necessarily equate to viruses, most illegal torrents out there (ie - the ones which give you commercial software for free) are often infected.

As for running your computer without an anti-virus: that's just daft.

Back on topic, the best way to keep your computer running fast is to take care of your OS. Don't install stuff you don't need is the key I think. Uninstall any bloatware which may be present once you've restored your computer back to factory HP settings.

A lot of torrents come up as infected by most AV's because they have keygens in them. Of course it's going to be detected as a virus.

I'm not saying that piracy is good. Obviously it is not good- at all. But when people say "OMG TORRENTZ MESS UP UR COMPUTER AND MAKE IT SLO AN JUNK" that's not always the case. If you're an idiot and you're downloading a torrent that has no feedback, comments, or anything, then obviously you're not too smart.

But more on topic, just do a fresh install of windows once you get the laptop. That always makes a computer happy.
