Time to recall networking in Win. 98!

Alright, someone called me and was asking for some help getting drivers setup again with their older Windows 98 machine. Over the phone, we apparently got his network card installed. However, when we checked he just had a 169.x.x.x IP (basically a dummy address) I'm going there tommarow, but I'm just making sure there's nothing I'm forgetting.

Also, I should mention when he started Internet Explorer, he got some "Welecome to MSN Internet" crap. No address bar or anything. I recall seeing this and beleive just removing the Connection Wizard folder corrects this. I told him to just rename the folder and sure enough, he gets to IE now. However, I don't know if we needed to do something to specify network/broadband access...

Once I get there, I'll check the drivers first off. If they look right, I'll try to ping 127.0.0.1 to see if the NIC's working. If it all seems well, I'll try to get a DHCP assigned address again. I guess if it won't work, I can just use the info from my laptop(assuming everything is DHCP from his modem) and manually enter it all.

Any other suggestions? I'd like to get this done quickly because I am quite busy around this time and really don't want to spend more than an hour or two at his house. Finals are coming up and I need to study :(
