thinkpad audio port

On my thinkpad (R31) when I plug in my headphones I hear wierd system noices like little beeps and low static, its not loud at all and I cant hear it with music/dvd w/e playing or when Im just using the system (or external)speakers, its ONLY with the headphones, which Im pretty sure arent the problem cause they work fine with my iPod and my previous laptop. ideas? is it the audio jack?? its kinda annoying. thanx alot

Most computers do this. Like with my main system, I think it's interferance picked up by the front audio port wire... It's probably something similar with yours, just some exter interference being picked up, or just being more audible in the headphones... Laptop speakers aren't that great, as you know
