Thermal Event

I have a 4 year old Dell computer that's been giving me problems lately.

The computer just shuts down randomly-without warning. When I restart it- it says a thermal event has occurred. My fan is working. Any idea what's going on?

I'd also remove the heat sink and remove the old thermal paste and apply some new Arctic Silver 5.

You say your fan is working but your computer likely has 3 fans on it. The CPU fan, the PSU fan and a case fan in all likley hood.

Storebought computers come with CRAP heatsinks. I suggest getting a cheap one off newegg (they'd be 100% better than the ones in your computer)

I would say its because of heat, better change your thermal paste and try it out. Hope it will work you.
