These are your best bet for the best speakers available:
(not in any particular order)
-Creative
-Logitech
-Klipsch

Top brands, in order:
Klipsch
Logitech
Creative

Best for your money: Logitech X-530. Trust me, I have them. They are amazing, while being inexpensive and high quailty.

Ya for the price ($50) the x-530's are the best speakers, well at least 5.1's.

Why do you say that? Personal preferance is not facts. Each company has it's advantages and disadvantages in the speaker market.

I don't go by "personal preference" alone but results. When looking for speakers that sounded better then crud I simply picked up a set for a good price at a pc show. At the time that was about $50- for the Z-640 5.1 surround sound setup. 140w rms worked out great here. The speakers fit into tight places while still getting the separation from spacing them apart on the office type pc desk here. The Creative EAX added to that was a bonus. :D

ive used the z-640s and i now have the x530s and i love them both great speakers wonderful quality cheap price ill never go back to a 2 speaker setup

labtec is an alternative cheap brand, got 2 speakers and a small sub for 25 buck, sounds good to me

Klipsch all the way. As soon as I heard the system in the store, I knew it was the one to get. Klipsch Promedia 5.1 will most likely blow away the Logitech.

I'll put a plug in for Creative's. Not so much that they have the best quality sound or anything, but they last and last and can take abuse. I've had my 4.1 setup since they were brand new on the market, have moved into 2 houses with them and dropped them plenty of times, snagged the cords etc. They still sound as good as ever. Other cheaper brands I've had could not take any abuse, or just sounded scratchy and muffled after a year or two of use.

That's nice if you have over $300 to spend on a high powered set like those seen at http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...TT=36-119-106&CMP=KNC-overturesmx&ATT=product 470 watts total on those as well as the high price.

For the average desktop that is a wee bit overboard. Creative is another name like Koss to look at. But the favored here is still with Logitech for both good sound and being affordable for most. :D
