Tell Outlook not to save indiv. sent emails

Often when I'm writing a note I don't need it saved to the Sent Items folder (such as thanks, good job, etc). OTOH, I do want to save many sent items. How can I tell Outlook not to save an individual note without affecting the default save-to-sent-items setting?

The irony is that this was easy to do in an ancient email system (from 1990!) by inserting a 3-character code at the bottom of notes that weren't to be saved. I haven't been able to find a way to do this now, and my sent-items folder is huge.

Thanks for your help.

Try: tools>rules and alerts>new rule
On that page there are options, and when you click next there are more options, that's as far as I went.

If you have to create a folder to move those to, you may be able to make it delete the contents when you close Outlook.

Thanks but the rules seem to apply only to received messages. I want to automatically send some of my sent messages to a place like the recycle bin.

There's a sent items selection in there, where you create a word to go in the subject or body and assign a ruke to the sent items with that word.
Or what about catagorizing then a rule to delete that catagory.

1. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place? All I see when creating a rule (and the rule is lined out in English in a text box at the bottom of the dialog box) is "Apply this rule when the message arrives." There a dozens of choices to check on top, such as "sent only to me", "containing these words," etc. If there were a rule that started out "sent BY me", then I could use it.

2. As for categorizing, I could do that but it would mean several clicks in each unneeded sent note to drill down to the "don't save" option.
