Technical question?

Hi all I have a bit of a technical question, does a gaming sound card enhance a persons gaming experience by boosting the actual game itself or is it because the sound card frees up the CPU resources which increases the games performance. Because I can’t see how a sound card could (increases the games performance)and I’d much rather spend more on a CPU and just get a good quality sound card than a high end one. Can I get some feed back on this question? ;)
 
i think it is more of the sound quility. like with some sound cards you can have 5.1 or 7.1 surround sound
 
It's enchances the gaming experience by allowing the gamer to distinctly tell the difference of things behind, in front of or to the sides of the gamer.
 
Well, just having a 5.1 or 7.1 capable sound card won't let you hear things behnid you, you have to have the surround speakers to go with it... My MOBO has 7.1 surround sound in it, so I could buy the 7.1 speakers, that way I'd be able to hear things behind me, but for the moment, I'm happy with a 2.1 set-up. :)
 
If I’m getting you right Korno, if I get any good quality card with 7.1 capabilities and surround speakers it will do much the same as a gaming card?
 
yes and no. i mean you could get a good sound card with a optical (spdif) output and hook it up to a good recever and that would be better then just a 7.1 capible card. but if you dont want it to go to a recever yes it does the same mostly

Yeah, if you get a Soundblaster or something similair and some 7.1 or 5.1 soround sound speakers, it'll sound great! I don't know, but it may also sound great if you use the onboard sound, thats what I do, and I may buy some 5.1 speakers...
 
Korno I appreciate your help but I don't think you understand my question. I don’t want a sound card so much for a better sound (although it would be better) rather to get the most out of my CPU. In a domain where ever little bit helps, I’d rather a game that runs better than sounds better!

I don't really get you, you don't want a great soundcard, you want one that will take strain off your CPU?

Using onboard sounds isn't bad really... You could give it a go, and then if you don't like it, buy a cheap soundcard?

True, but it isn't recommended if you want more capacity, why I would spend big money on something that won’t make the games play any better. I’m happy with the audio one gets from some onboard sound system, but I know I could get better sound and a faster system with an average card like a Sound Blaster Audigy.

I can’t understand how some spend big money on great components to make their gaming experience as best possible and for the sake of a few bucks haven’t got a sound card which could give up to 15% more performance. (Well that what they say on some websites of high end cards, I don't know how true that is?)

Let’s put it down to one mans meat! :o
