ok i know this is part of Spy Bot search and destroy, but do i need it? what are some instances where it would be helpful?

Spybot was pretty good at one time but sucks anymore, you would be better off even using Defender.

Superantispyware is not bad either.

how good is the UI is it simple? i ant something that is not a resource hog and is simple like spybot

Malwarebytes and Superantispyware is tons better than spybot. Spybot - search and destroy and Adaware used to be good in their day but not any longer.
