I have a socket 754 CPU and I can't get it off. I'm afraid I'm gonna break something. It's really tight on there. How I get the clips to unhook easily?
 
cpu fan should be tight to help with heat transfer so they all are a little difficult to get off. If you move the clips up slowly and gently adding more pressure as needed to unclip it, it should come off fairly easily.
 
common misbelief, CPU's and mobos can take more battering than you think. I once had to hacksaw the screws out of the mobo, yes hacksaw, that mobo is still running no, its the rig in the sig.... and my cpu gets ripped out of its socket everytime i take the HSF off, as of now i only have 1 bent pin, which i put back with some tweezers.... lol, everything works perfectly.
