I think this graph is interesting and I thought I would post it for any interested. It's amazing how much faster RAM has become since the year 2000. Memory got over ten times faster from the year 2000 to 2001.

Yeah EVERYTHING has been jumping fast these past few years.

Its kinda cool and kinda crappy at the same time. Cool for the speed but dang hard on the pocket.

Just don't buy the latest and greatest components and be a little more satisfied with what you have. When you upgrade look for used components. I spent $70 about a month ago on my present used Phenom 9550 Quad-Core.

July 2011 we now have DDR3 2300 (PC3 18400) memory. Quite the jump in speed from PC 3200 Random Access Memory in 2001. Memory is now 5.5 times faster than in 2001.

Yeah, i always get essentially the best i can afford of the last generation. For example, i used to have a LGA775 Striker II Extreme board with a quad core and fast ddr 2 ram. I sold all of that, and added 100 bucks to get my current system, which i think is a smart way to upgrade every 2 years.
