i bought a switch (linksys ef4124) today and am having some serious problems with it. linksys support is no help of course. i do have a router in front of it which has dhcp on. now this switch should be autosensing. i have a crossover cable from the router to the switch so it should work. my setup is below

plz dont make fun of my font, its pimpin

as long as your modem is receiving a static ip address from your ISP not a dynamic and the router is set to dhcp. It should work.

do you have any regular cat5 cables. Usually crossover cables are for two computers to connect to each other without a hub/router/switch.

i tried regular cat5 to no avail. crossover cables are for device to device. my router is set for dhcp but i dont know about the static or dynamic ip from my isp. any way to check? its optimum online

Hey there!

I have a similar type of network set up (image below)

<img border="0" src="http://i104.photobucket.com/albums/m189/jamiet147/network.jpg" width="733" height="441">

and I have all standard cat5 cable between all devices (inc router to switch) and mine worked first time without any problems.

What kind of router do you have?

Jamie

What's your "serious problem" I mean can you even ping the router? Are you getting IPs? Does it work without the switch?

The setup looks fine. It's basically crossover to like devices so all should be well. But most switches anymore will automatically work for either crossover or straight cables.
