surround sound

alright so I have the x-530's and I just built some speaker stands so I can place the rear speakers behind me but I was wondering if anyone could tell me or show me like what angles the speakers should be at or how far away they should be for optimal sound thanks for any help

Your sound card might have a calibration mode; at least mine does. It works wonders.

I looked but couldn't find anything there was an eax control panel, a mixer, a speakers settings, and a balence panel but nothing as far as calibration

Here's a diagram I know it's kinda common sense and you're looking for someone to give exact distances and stuff, but it's really up to your ears, preferences, space available, and other factors of personnal preference. Rather than the setup below I prefer to have the speakers angled to create more of a distant sound field.

I thought the picture only had the 5.1 set up, but the right would be a 7.1 of course. One more thing to note, this doesn't show sub placement and it's less important since the sound created by subwoofers are omnidirectional.

This is from that article. How many people actually sit in the dead center of that couch? That's why I say it depends on too many things, because not every one has only one couch in their livingroom.

so the rear speakers should be closer and slightly angled and the front/center should be further and straight?

Yeah, basically. Also, try to get the speakers as close to level with your ears as possible (for best sound experience).

I like the stands you made I'll have to do something similar for my home home theater speakers.

thank you I really like them myself they don't topple over very easily and now that I've gotten surround sound it makes games and movies much more enjoyable

plus they match my desk
