Hey guys, i just got my new PC and it came with a 7.1 sound card (Realtek HD Audio) and a digital Coaxial output, i plugged my Digital Coaxial Cable into it and my Onkyo HT S580 Receiver, but i cant get true surround sound to work! I installed the latest drivers and everything but it just wont work! I can get surround sound though when i plug in my Surround Sound Headphones (except they use different plugs and not a Coaxial Cable)

so PLEASE help me! ANY suggestions would save my life

thank you

As far as I know the Realtek is onboard audio (Realtek HD being the codec), not a separate soundcard. Edit that, I did find a Realtek HD soundcard on the Net.

When you say the audio does not work, do you mean nothing at all or stereo only or what?

1. Make sure the spdif output is enabled in the audio setting software. My old Realtek onboard audio had a control panel

2. Make sure the receiver input is correctly selected

If still no sound,

3. Check that the spdif output from the back of the pc is actually connected to something inside the pc. If you do have a soundcard rather than onboard audio the output is directly connected to the card so no need to check.
