surround sound lag to back

I made a makeshift surround sound system with normal speakers as left and right, an old radio as the centre/subwoofer, and a normal pair of speakers as left and right rear connected by a long cable that I soldered ends onto (possibly soldered them wrong). When I play a song, there is a distinct lag and a difference in the audio when it gets to the rear speakers. It is as if there is a live band in front of me and I can hear the sound reflecting off a wall behind me (most distinct when playing the cymbals)

Is this because of:

1) my soldering job and a long cable
2) the way windows tries to make it sound cool when I am doing surround sound (I am using default drivers)
3) the songs are configured to sound realistic in a surround sound environment

Could be number 3...

Also could be your soldering job, cable distance wont affect the speed, unless its like 50'+, You could try finding your soundcard drivers and tuning the settings, see if that makes any difference.

Sounds to me like its the whole cinema experience thing. Should be easy enough to turn off in your sound settings.
