Morning gentleman.......
I need some help.....when I buy a board with like 7.1 or 5.1 surround. How do I set it up......I plug speakers into it and there is nothing coming out of any but the original two. i have heard you have to get some kind of an adapter or somehting.....anybody got any ideas on this...

Thanks,

In speaker set up select 5.1 for 5 speakers and 1 sub. Or if it has 7 speakers and 1 sup its 7.1. If it has 2 speakers and 1 sub its 2.1.

what I was refering to is on the back of the computer with all the imputs and such on there I wasn't sure how to wire it up to get surround sound......someone had once said that I needed some kind of patch cable......

way it is

what i am talking about is that if you have more than one set of speakers.....some go into the mic in area and some go into the line out and so on......I need help figuring out what goes where......sometimes I htink you have to be a rocket scientist to figure this hoo haa out......Praetor I know you have the answer :P

It depends on the sound card. Most cards come with software that lets you set up speakers for 5.1, 7.1 etc , and some have nice graphics showing which color output goes where (center/sub, surround, front etc), the manual should also explain that.

no

no what I meant is that my board is supposed to have onboard 5.1 surround......I don't have a particular card. I am talking about using like the line-in for left speaker rear and mic-in for right speaker rear and so fourth until you use all the ports and such! I am trying to figure out if I get the diagram right for the cabling do I have to change anything as far as OS setup?
