Subwoofer rotations. (damage)

Placing subwoofers on their side. Does that cause any damage to them?

Ok guys, I have a little bit of a problem. Well my brother has an Altec Lansing 2100 model on his computer. My oldest brother bought it, and I do not know how he does it, most of the times he picks out quality things like without even researching or anything. :) Anyways it is a 2.1 system, but I think it is still very good. Altec Lansing has discontinnued Altec Lansing 2100 speakers, along with many other speakers such as Altec Lansing 5100, a 5.1 version of the model Altec Lansing 2100. I really liked the sound of my brother's Altec Lansing speakers so I have done some research on a few Altec Lansing speakers and I think I seen many people writing on reviews that Altec Lansing has really good subwoofers. But.... their subwoofers are really big, which is really cool but.... I will get back to that a little later. So I was researching and I found an Altec Lansing model which is actually pretty big. I do not think I knew that untill I researched it's size.... Here is a picture of it, scroll down and take a better look at it. Altec Lansing VS4221 It's hieght is actually 13.4" (inches) but my little shelf at the bottom of my computer desk is only 13" (inches) high. I am not sure.... I guess I could take off the little rubber leggs that it uses to protect the bottom surface of it.... But even then I still am not sure if I will have enough space, and even if it does fit, I might still scratch the top of the subwoofer, because the shelf's top is the keyboard slide out shelf. So I only have 13" (inches) in height. And I need like 13.4" (inches). The shelf is about 16" (inches) wide, so what I thought I would do is flip the subwoofer to it's side so that it's width becomes the height, and the hight becomes the width. If I would keep it that way on the shelf and listen to music would it get damaged in any way? Subwoofers do vibrate and I think they are built to stay on their bottom, so if I lay it on it's side will things eventually begin to fall apart on the inside? Or are subwoofers built so that things stay attached no matter what way you put them? I think it would be ok, but I want to make sure and see what you guys think. I actually want to remove the rubber leggs from the bottom and put them on the side so it does not get scratched up and stands still. :D

hmm should be a problem, but it is probably designed to get the best quality and woofer noise lol when it is in the right position, ya id take ff the legs and you will be fine. altec lansing make great speakers, but mine always makes these anooying beeping noises whenever my phone is near it or even a lil further also even if i am on the phone and it is load lol but my 5.1 dosnt do it to much does any one know how to prevent it if possible, i gave these speakers away to my cusin although i paid a good 50 dollars on them

it should not hurt the speaker, it might rattle a bit if you don't put the rubber legs back on it though. So go right ahead and try it.

I was just thinking about taking the rubber legs from the bottom and put them on it's side, and lay it down that way so it does not scratch up the bottom and stay in place. Thank you. :D
