Stupid forum question

Although I'll admit to having some intelligence, regardless of how limited, I'm not very forum savvy, I reckon. So I have a couple of really stupid questions which, if you have absolutely nothing better to do, you may feel free to answer. Okay, enough banter, here's the questions:

While I type this, I see a box for "tags" below the box in which I'm typing. What the heck is a tag?

And, on this, and a songwriting forum, I've seen someone post "bump". What's that mean?

You're help to bring me to the 21st century would be appreciated. :)

Thanks.

Tags are keywords that a person can search for to find particular posts. Or more generally when searching for anything. So if you gave this thread a tag like "forum", Then anyone that searches forum will see this thread.

Bump means just that. Whenever you post in a thread, it moves to the top of the list. They do this when they are trying to get a question answered but the thread is gaining no traffic. It's considered kind of rude to do this a lot, so, you know...don't.

I don't know if this is a rule but I heard that you can bump a thread once it gets moved to the second page and you still need help. But bumping everyday is annoying and will be frowned upon.

Generally the wait period is 1-2 full days before bumping. Depends on the forum.

I could see bumping once every 12 hours if the forum is busy that day. If its not busy then once a day is sufficient.

Wow. Thanks guys. I actually got a lot more information than I had anticipated. I apprecitate your answers. (no bump intended) :)
