Studio monitors through a laptop?

Hello,

I'm trying to get into producing music, but I've kind of hit a road block as far as my speakers go. I bought some studio monitors and I'm going to try to hook them up through a receiver into an external sound card. Problem is I don't have any real idea how to do this. Would these two work together to get a good sound? Any help is appreciated.

What you need is a external DAC connected to a receiver then to a pair of unpowered monitors (or DAC directly to powered monitors).

The first one isn't it. The second and third one will work (the V-DAC is a lot better than the X-fi).

Alright. I think I need the 3rd one though, my laptop has a realtek sound card in it, and from what I understand that isnt strong enough and would get burned out or something. Is this correct?

No it won't burn, it just won't sound that good if you use it with studio monitors.
