Strange sound configuration

Well, i have integrated sound card (Sigmatel 5.1) and i am using Creative inspire T7900 (7.1 system with 5.1 stereo upmix). Well, i went to sound settings and set 7.1 home theater speakers and everything worked fine, but sigmatel audio control panel couldnt open, i didn't mind it. But now i reinstalled it and the problem is, that on music, only 3 speakers works, 2 front, centre and subwoofer.. I want that all seven speakers would work, please, give me a solution.

Thank you.

Windows didn't fully install the application on the reinstall. That can happen easy enough with the softwares for expansion cards as well where something won't work until you remove and reinstall the software/drivers a few times even with a clean fresh install of Windows itself! You have to fight with it a bit to finally see everything start working as it should. Just remember to reboot after each step to see that everything unloads and loads.

The usual end result when going to uninstall the app is also seeing the drivers removed as well such as the case where an update with an installer will first remove everything to see newer drivers installed. The support on hardwares like expansion cards namely video and sound cards will see a separate update for drivers alone. Take example ATI driven cards will see the drivers only without the Catalyst Control Center.

Generally I find you have to perform a full removal then fresh full install to get everything working properly if the initial install(s) see a problem. You still will need the application portion for the speaker settings as well as the mixer, equalizer, etc. in order to see the setting for the 7.1 setting to be applied.

Drivers alone would most likely reduce you to stereo even while sound was heard out of all speakers losing the surround sound effect there. Are you running XP or Vista or both there? If you inadvertently ended up with a Vista update going on XP that would stall the works a bit. I ran into that last year due to goof at Creative's support site as well as with the autoupdater included in the installer itself.

I think their site isn't working at the present time for sure. I can't get on with the link there or when using search results page full including downloads from the developers page. They are likely down for a server problem.

That certainly doesn't help you any. I never count on onboard sound here always going for a good and newer Creative model card. If that quits then I simply load the drivers for the onboard until a bad card is replaced.

While the sound quality has been improved on newer boards you may want to consider that option rather then putting up the hassles trying to keep the onboard sound up and running when their site is down. All I get when trying to get on there is IE can't find page errors for the moment.
