Whats the difference between a Straight Cat5e cable and a Crossover Cat5e cable?
Just wanted to know before I buy off Ebay.

Cheers

Ok

A crossover cable is used when you wanna hook 2 pc up together as to form a small home network without using a router or anything else. A normal cable is used in large networks or when you have a home network larger than two pcs...and the cable would go from a PC card to the router. Hope that helps.

JAN :D

either have 3 network cards 2 on your pc and one on the other or this is what i would do just get a router with an in built switch called intelligent switch or router/switch

if you want to avoid purchasing a router...and can afford more network cards then definately buy a crossover cable...the main difference between the two is that a crossover cable's pin for transmit and receive are 'crossed over' compared to a straightthrough cat5 cable....

I was gonna use a router to connect my 2 home pcs to the internet. Crossover or straight?
To answer your question, you will want to get 2 straight cables, if you go with the router.
