Still having problems setting up my wireless network for file transfer/sharing

Okay, I have a Linksys router which is used to connect my XP PRO desktop with my XP MCE laptop.
I'm only able to share Internet connection, I don't have a clue about file/device sharing.

Someone said something about having identical subnets?

I suck with networks; anyway, here's a few screenies that might help:

Thanks :P

you have a passworded connection. you are using a router right? remove the password and you should be fine. if you cant, reset the router via the reset button and let us know what happens

This sounds stupid but vista finally solved this problem for me it told me you cannot access any of the network things without a password on your account i put a simple password on all 3 computers involved and bingo i can see all the computers simple as that. For some reason it doesn't like accounts with blank passwords... weird i know... Never could get it to work on my laptop in xp though something must have been screwed up from the factory in it.

i have four computers that are using different passwords and it still works it is a mixed of wired and wireless. what you need to do is if you are sharing a printer you enable nwlink netbios when you are running different oses. it wont let me connect to the host with the printer until i install that one.

also all your compter should be using the same group like WORKGROUP by default.

First thing to do is to run the network set up wizard on both computers and make sure that they are both running on the same workgroup. When you have done that and restarted, try to access the workgroup again. Also you may want to try accessing the computer directly. So if you gave the computers network names as Laptop and Desktop, try typing \\Laptop from the desktop machine.

This should work and there should not be any problems with the actual network setup as ICS is working. Just to be safe run ipconfig (Start>Run>cmd>ipconfig) on both machines and make sure all settings except from IP address on the correct network adaptor are correct.

Let us see the settings of the Internet Protocols TCP/IP for both of your pc. If they both match, they should both access eachother through the router to eachother. If not, you will and should give both of your pc's an individual ip address if they are set on automatic detect. I have the same router also so it's fairly easy to setup.

I agree with codeman. Since your having trouble setting it up, if you have a router you should have DHCP enabled, so it automatically assigns each client network information, such as IP and subnet. Then all you should have to do is run the Windows Network Sharing utility, set them both up on the same work group, share files, and then you should see each PC's files that are shared.

I know both PC's have the same IP; how do I give them seperate ones?
No they shouldn't. If they do, one or the other wouldn't be able to access the internet. This is not referring to the modem ip, but the router ip it gives out to your pc's. Again, let us see the properties of TCP/IP. There you can change the ip settings and subnet, DNS, etc.
