sterio speakers vs comp speakers

i was wondering what would be better for me, i will either be gettting the audiy 2 zs to the audigy x-fi for my next build, and my comp is pretty much a media comp that is hooked up to my tv and some rly old speakers/receiver. i want to get a new sterio system but was wondering if should just get some rly good speakers like the logitch z-5500. my speakers now are also used for listening to my tv.

so should i get comp speakers for my setup or sterio speakers, and if i got sterio then i would get a new reciever for around 200$ and will my sound card be able to connect to it? what type of connection would i even need?

if i understand the question your asking, you would need a y cable like this one ,

, to bring your soun dcard to a stereo reciever. also, i think you should go with stereo speakers compared to computer speakers. stereo speakers are more versatile, and can be used in a home theatre system, where computer speakers may look wrong.

ya that is what im talking about, i already have one of those so i guess im set. im just using the headphones on the crappy comp on on right now. do you know if i will lose quality? and what if i wanted surround sound?

by lose quality, do u mean by hooking your pc to your reciever will you lose quality? if so, no, i doubt it. as for surround, i think a sound card which supports it would be your best choice. but i dont see why running the pc to your reciever and configuring surround channels and front channels, then turning both channels on at the same time, wouldnt work, im pretty sure that works, but i just use my front a and b channels

im planning on getting the x-fi now and that obviously supports surround.

also do you think that it would be any better getting pc speakers and hooking them up to the tv?
i still dont get exactly what i am going to plug into what

heres a good pic of the sound card

also i just read this
"the only way to get 6 channels through an optical/coax cable"
so i guess i can onlydo it this way

also this:
PC games usually use technologies like as EAX to create surround sound, not Dolby Digital. So even if your speaker system has a Dolby Digital decoder, it will be of no use when playing games. The EAX processing is done on the soundcard, and the 6-channel sound is output via the analogue (or digital DIN if available). So you still need analogue connections to your digital speakers for games, if you just use an optical/coax cable you will only get the front left/right sound.

so now i have no clue what to do, comp speakers are sounding much easier

yeah, computer speakers will be easier to work with, but I think you will get the best results of stereo speakers with a good amp. If your sound card had digital opical or coax, you could get even beeter sound and wouldnt have to use the y adapter. Otherwise you just got connect via analog.

Anyway, as far as stereo speakers go, I suggest a company called Paradigm, little pricey, but very nice.

True, but if the receiver has individual left/right surround left/surround right center and subwoofer inputs then you could just use an analog connection like I do and it would be perform the same as 5.1 PC speakers.

so for games i need to use analog if i want surround? and for that way i use the y adapter? but that wont sound as good as optical but with that there is no surround sound?
