static in mic

hi everyone.. lately ive been told by friends that they get a lot of static from my mic in skype calls, etc. it only starts happening though about 5 min or so into the call. so i gotta new headset thinking it was my headset, and it still did the same thing. my friends told me to get a usb headset. i asked another friend what he thought it could be and he said my sound card.
so im here to get more opinions..

Update sound drivers? Maybe it's in a faulty USB slot? Reinstall skype?

Try recording something and see if it sounds like static.

I honestly don't know but simple things like this often resolve weird issues.
