How do you turn off processes that open up during start up?

Click start, Run, and then type msconfig. I think you should be able to fix the problem there.

You can also try deleting entries in your startup folder from within the start panel. Any persistant entries that MSCONFIG can't configure may also be tampered with from within regedit.

A quickie fix is simply go down to the blue bar (task bar) at the bottom of your desktop, right click properties, in taskbar properties click customize and choose which ones you want to run. ;0)
