speakers suck when hooked up to vaio

i have a new Sony Vaio FE590. It rocks except that the built in speakers are exceptionally crappy. So I bought a Klipsch home theater system to run off them. Here come the questions...

- Am I right to think that the ONLY place to connect to the laptop for sound is through the headphone jack?

Sony cust. svc. thinks so but I don't buy it. There has to be some way to hook up speakers without this awful quality. I have tried various cable/wires out of the headphone jack and different stereo and different speakers. So I know it is definately the headphone jack on the computer.

- How can I get them to sound better? There is lots of static and high pitched twang and ting. Really bad.

Please help!!!!!
I will be forever greatful!

With your current hardware, yes. It's rare that laptops have any more than a single speaker connection(IE the headphone jack) I doubt you could make it sound any better, either.

There are external USB sound cards, and internal PCMCIA sound cards. I really don't care for such setups, but that's an option...

That is the only place that you can hook them up on a laptop and thats why the sound sucks cause it is integrated sound. But you can get a external soundcard for it and it will sound alot better. go to www.newegg.com and go to the soundcards sectiona and look for external soundcards creative makes some good ones.

A HA!!! I now see that they are the same thing. The Creative external sound card on the Sony site is the same as the one on newegg.com. Thanks!! Do you really think it will make the difference?

I meant, do you think that having an external sound card would make a difference? Would the sound be clear and crisp?
