speakers not working

after having our computer repaired, I brought it home, hooked in some cheap speakers we had hooked in before only now I can't get them to work. They light up but I get no sound. Any suggestions?
 
try a different audio hole in the back of the comp, or look at ur master volume controls and see if anything is muted or turned down. this is done through the control panel.
 
ya my speakers on my laptop (built in) stopped working recently, On aim it makes beeping sounds but it can't play music or play anything with sound :confused: it might be the sound card or something i don't know that much about sound stuff. help me!
