Speakers making a slight sound when nothing should be playing?

Just like the title says, this thing has been driving me nuts for the past week. My speakers make a tiny whistling sound when nothing is being input, it goes away if I'm scrolling a page pr the CPU use goes above idle and thats about it. I tried a different set of speakers and is does the same thing. Maybe some interference near my computer? I had issues with my wireless router making the speakers tweak out before but it is far away now. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Using the onboard audio on a X58A-U3DR and a cheap set of creative speakers.

More than likely you are getting a small amount of interference from other components on the motherboard. It would be hard to nail down exactly what's causing it, and even if you did nail it down, more than likely you'd end up replacing the motherboard regardless of where the problem is originating from.

So most likely its the board? I'm not very happy with it to begin with, it puts my 5850s right next to each other so the primary sometimes gets too hot because of lack of airflow.

^^ Yup agree most likely an internal component or maybe onboard audio is going bad? Any cell phones or house phones around your pc? If so those can cause interference also.
