Does this require a sound card in order to use?

I don't believe it, someone in this forum actually cares about midrange! What happened to turning the bass and treble up to 11?.....These speakers lack in the midrange
No, but one would help. These speakers lack in the midrange. I suggest the Klipsch ProMedia 2.1. However, to answer your question, your motherboard should have a green speaker port to plug into, a 3.5mm jack.
Pretty much every speaker system actually lol. The only speaker systems that come to mind that really have something close to a full strong sound range for the PC are the Klipsch ProMedia/Ultra 5.1 and the Edifier S550's. The latter being impossible to find in America, only available in Canada/Australia and some Asian countries and the Klipsch being discontinued w/ overheating problems (though, that can be remedied). All are much more expensive than the Z-2300's though.
I differed in opinion in the post immediately before yours. I was replacing Altec Lansing speakers (defective volume control) with cheaper Logitech and the most obvious difference was a fuller midrange sound. On further listening I found the stereo image was a lot clearer too. I'm also thinking about putting the subwoofer on closed cell foam to stop my desk (on thick carpet) vibrating. Sounds good to me.....I mean just about every logitech speaker lacks midrange
