Speakers emitting loud, obnoxious "test tone" sounds

So my computer started emitting some sort of random and obnoxious test tone type of sound that isn't volume control dependent. The only way to make it go away is to turn the speakers off. It happens at random intervals and it seems to be one tone about 400 htz (guess) with several other harmonic tones in it, then that one stops and there is one high up at 10 K (again, complete guess) and then one or two more. It's hard to tell because I usually have to kill it quick as I don't want my neighbors complaining (I live in an apt. complex). They are always the same exact tones (I'm a musician so I can tell the frequency of the tones aren't changing). I've not added any new hardware or downloads at all, nothing is different or new that would cause some sort of signal bleed or interference, and there is no indication of any sort of fail in the device manager. Any thoughts?

Oh, the event occurs randomly but the order and length of the tones are always the same btw.

couple of things.

1. Test the speakers on another sound source like a TV or different computer, or even an Ipod and see if it does it. This will rule in or out the speakers as the cause.
if that fails and it stops.
2. Run a maleware scan on your computer from Malewarebytes and be sure you have nothing bad on there. I have never personally had maleware cause sounds, but our CTE textbook says that it can, so you may have some.
if that fails, then take the speakers to another room, ideally exactly across the house from their current location and try them, it may be interference from a radio source.

Will do. They are an old set that I've had for a while. I've updated the drivers but that didn't fix it and no new drivers were found. I'm tempted to exclude the radio interference because when it occurs, it is the exact same thing every time. But I'll let you know how the moving of the speakers turns out.

Depending on your motherboard, mine is set up to send a tone through the speakers if bios detects that the cpu is getting too warm.
I haven't hit that level yet, but my owners manual says it will do that.
