Speakers Crackling

I have a mates PC, his speakers make this cracking noise and distort the sound. I have put in new speakers and still the same problem.

I though is was the soundcard but I tried speakers in the front headphone jack as well and still crackling.

How can i solve this problem, does anyone know what might be causing this and how to fix it.

Thanks

Check the output levels and Windows own sound mixer as well as the card's own if the software has one. If the audio is all the way out there may be a little bit of feedback being heard. You could also try reseating the card after using an air cleaner to blow dust and dirt out of the case itself. A buildup of dust and debris could causing the problem there.

A bad cable does that too, although unlikely. In the Windows mixer, see if muiting some things like Line In and PC speaker, see if that does it.

Do you know the make and model for the sound card there? An update could be needed there. Remember though that any unshielded audio source is often vulnerable to transmissions like cb radios, cell phones, and of course picking up emmissions from nearby power sources too. Turn a light switch on and off quickly or a large appliance to see that.
