Speakers constantly make an annoying noise

Hello!!

I recently hooked my computer up to a set of speakers (like hi-fi ones) and they produce the sound lovely! :D

It's just that constantly the speakers are making this kind of 'feedback' kind of noise....?

Here's what it sounds like:

The strangest thing of all, is if i restore a window (for example, Internet Explorer) and drag it around fast, the noise stopped (until i stoppped dragging it around, it started again :(). Also, when i was playing my snooker game on the PC, whenever the balls moved on the table, the sound would stop, and then start when the balls stopped moving...Or, if i use my mousewheel and scroll up and down something fast, it will stop... :confused:

Someone please help me, these are really nice speakers, but they're driving me insane!!

too close to a crt?
bad drivers, maybe.
turn off all external sound sources in the sound - bottom rh corner. eg. recording input, aux, etc.. - most likely.

Well, these speakers are pretty old (but i know that's not the reason :P) and they were my grandma's....

They are like wires with the rubber bit covering the wire stripped, and you 'clamp' the electrical wire to the metal bit :D

Basically, i have them connected to this old stereo amplifier thing, and the input is coming from my computer through red and white connectors, into the phono input on it (there are also aux, and tuner inputs). So it's not a case of 'turning off' external sound sources (to be honest, i don't really understand what you mean by that, but i can't see anything to turn off..).

I'll have another look, and keep the help coming :D!!

In the volume control set all volumes to max (thus the signal/noise ratio will be better) and mute the line-in.

Well, if i have the sound coming from my nVidia nForce Audio device i have an option for 'Line In', but when i go through another device that's specially built so I can play my guitar and vocal microphone and the computer will record it/play it....It's called 'M-Audio Fast Track USB, it doesn't have an option for 'Line In'. Besides, on my nVidia nForce Audio, when I mute it, it still happens anyway...

Thanks for trying guys, but somehow, I don't think we'll solve it :(

It doesn't matter, I'll just buy a proper set meant for computers :D

when you are playing music - go to the bottom right and mute the master sound. If you hear nothing at all, - software problem, if you still hear that sound - hardware problem.
 
I figured it was the Piece of hardware i connected the speakers into, because i plugged my computer upto another hi-fi system in my home and that works fine. The speakers themselves are fine, its the stereo amplifier thing where you plug the ends in that is the problem. Thanks dave and lorand,
