Speakers buzz!

Well basically, i got a new monitor for Christmas, so my speakers come out of the monitor, and there is a line in cable from my soundcard to the monitor(means hdmi input on the monitor can have sound).

Now, since i did this set-up my right speaker just seems to make a fuzzing noise like is distorted but the music is still really quiet! my speakers are fairly poor like 10w dell ones 5 years old.

I'm planning to upgrade, but i dont want to upgrade and have the same buzz, so do you think its the actual speakers or just the way its set-up?

Try connecting the speakers to the soundcard directly and see if you get the same buzz, pretty easy to tell whether or not its the speakers then.(Hook up directly=no buzz then the speakers are fine).

Its, going through stages of buszzing at not buzzing. Either way i want to upgrade so it doesnt matter whether there broke or not .
