Speakers - $150 budget

Hello my fellow people on the internet.

Right basically, I'm, totally totally sick of my netbook speakers :D

I used to have a pair of Acoustic Energy Aego M's that faired me very well, decided to sell them a while back after not actually being in my room, so not listening to them & that too much, anyway I thought I could cope but. It didn't work out :) I miss them too much!

So I'm back to the market.

Throw me any suggestions, I don't want another pair of Aego's, even though they were very very good, I'm looking for something new :) Something 2.0, preferrably 2.1.

I know the Z2300's are automatically going to be reccomended to me, I have taken them into consideration. I'm looking for some alterative's :good:

Idea's ;)

I reckon i have a pretty good 5.1 speaker setup (logitech x540s) i find they offer excellent sound and bass for music and especially games :) and they aren't that expensive either.

It's still not on the levels of really nice speaker systems. They might be good for gaming and such, but they're probably lacking in the mid range department for music. Trust me, I've gone through a few logitech 5.1 systems and they don't compare to good 2.0 systems, especially if you have a nice soundcard and high fidelity audio files.

Okay right, sorry for not replying to this thread for a while :)

The main use for these speakers are Music, I defenetly don't want to go the 5.1 route.

I've decided to go with what bomber said & go down the Reciever / Bookshelf Speakers route, maybe add a sub later.

My budget for both is around £100-£125. Say $180

Only brands I've really owned in the past is, Denon, Jamo & Mission.

Will the fact that I'm going to be running to a receiver from my cheap & cheerfull netbook's soundcard affect the SQ at all ?

Would it be sensible to pick up a USB card?

More questions later :)

Again, gonna need a link to whatever store sells that stuff in the uk, not really familiar with audio stores in the UK.

Sound quality will be degraded by using an integrated sound card, the creative labs XMOD is decent, its by no means a high end sound card but is quite a bit better than integrated is going to give you.

Christ that card you mentioned above is at least £50 on its own :P

I've been looking around audio stores, a few I've come accross are:

www.richersounds.com
www.hifibitz.co.uk
www.hifi4less.com
www.superfi.co.uk
www.sightandsounduk.com
www.hifix.com

Haven't looked at all of them yet just clicked around so far, I'm also browsing through ebay to see what I can find

Wow, really? It can be had for ~$30 here:
http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Labs-Xmod-Sound-Card/dp/B000IZ96LQ

I'll take a look at those sites and see what sorta receivers and speakers can be found for your price range.

This is harder than I thought :P

I'll have a browse around for a decent usb card in a while see If I can find one for say around £30.

I'm looking for a reciever with the minimum of 3.5mm or RCA in, speaker outputs with the option of being able to add a subwoofer later.

I haven't yet seen anything on ebay that I can connect a sub to.

Right I just had to hand over these bookshelf speakers back to my mum, I've got a receiver out of the loft.

I'm looking for something to just get me untill next month, I'll have around £120 budget I think.

Anyway, I'm thinking of spending £20 now just to get off of these outrageous netbook speakers.

What would be best, a £20 set of budget PC speakers from say Logitech, or a cheap set of Bookshelves :)

I'd say look for a cheap set of bookshelves(granted you already have an amp/receiver).

I do have a reciever, although its an old $25 CD player with AUX in so didn't think it would be much use, picked up the S220 in the end (think I told you earlier)

They were cheaper & will be easier to resell so :good:
