Speaker amp issues

I bought 3 sets of speakers of different brands and all of them had the same issue. The left speaker always have weak or no output (it's always the left speaker!). I'm pretty sure it's coming from the amp and not the satellites. Now I'm beginning to think that this problem might be coming from my computer. No, the sound card is fine and the left and right volume control is even. Maybe some voltage problem is making one speaker side go bad? I am frustrated now because I have no reliable speakers to use for months. I'm sending my defective 2.1 speakers to the warranty service but I really want to make sure if it's a speaker problem and not the PC or sound card. Or maybe I'm just unlucky? Any help would be super appreciated.

Do these speakers by any chance have those control boxes used to change the volume and/or bass? they always cause problems, especially with my logitech set.

As for a solution, I opened up the control box, found where the speakers connected from the amp/sub to the control box, and then soldered the connections to the bottom of the circuit board and did away with the connecter.

for the most part this fixed the issue, but in cold weather and cold boots of the computer, as well as using headphones from the control box, i still get the issue.

It seems to be a major design flaw. I have found that moving the connector of the speakers to the amp around in its socket can get the speaker to come alive again, as well as playing something with loud volume and bass (music)

Hope that helps.

Yes, these speakers have a wired remote for the volume. I opened it but I didn't know which wire to solder so I felt for output signals by running my fingers through the chipset.. Everything seems to be wired properly; there wasn't any dead soldering joints done here. I'm still waiting a response from the RMA. The plug and surge protector I'm using is all in good condition.

This might sound stupid, but can my sound card or my PC supposedly kill my speakers?

Can you increase the voltage on your sound card by manually increasing the playback volume and consequently damage the speakers??

I would not do anything like that, will void any warranty... also might stuff up your RMA.

As for the soldering of the connector, I cut off the plug, stripped the wires, and used the plug as a guide to where i solder the wires. It works, but still has the same issues, althoguh the connection is more reliable.

Thanks for the help, I"ll go re-solder some wires from the old speakers instead of selling it. They are quite expensive and heavy. I also read somewhere that the jack could use cleaning because the connection could be blocked by dust thus muting one side of the speakers.
