on my mobo i have a SPDIF out and it said i could set up a 6-chanel speaker system (2 Front, 2 Rear, 1 Center and 1 bass) so is this a 5.1, 6.1 or what dose this mean help me please.....thanks g's :D

I beleive it's just a digital output where you need a converter to actually use the other configurations. If you have a fairly new receiver, you might have this input...

Seeing as you do have this, check around, you might have options to use these setups without the SPDIF. Some mobo's have programs that change the line-in to say rear-out...

6 speakers is just another way of saying 5.1 channel. S/PDIF is just a digital audio interface that can be used with compatible audio recievers, just be carefull about whether its optical or coaxial. I use an optical out on my computer to my reciever and it works quite well, especially for DVDs.

Use of Optical audio cable on PC's

Hi ,

I have a mini disk player/recorder. Normally I use my Playstation 2 to play the CD media and then record via an optical audio cable on to the MD player. Is there any way to connect a desktop PC to the MDisk using the existing optical audio cable (it has a jack plug for the minidisk headphone socket).
