Hi.
So, I bought an Acer Aspire 5570 laptop about a year ago (Operates on windows vista) and since i bought it the S/PDIF (Headphone) Jack, hasn't been reading my headphones and the sound stil comes out the speakers. To test if it was reading my headphones at all I made it so that when i plugged them in, a notification would pop up. It never does. Ive reinstalled the audio driver multiple times but still, nothing. How should I fix this?

sounds like a hardware problem. try another headphone and if that doesn't work its probably something with your laptop. do you warranty?

A believe a good headphone jack would use a continuity tester using your headphones as a bridge in order to determine when to switch the output mode, but it is also possible that by plugging in your headphones the plug depresses a switch that activates the power. If it is continuity, and Acer does not want to fix it for you, take the headphone jack out and clean it out (the inner contacts) with CLR or something, if it is the pressure switch, you may have to mess with its spring and positioning.
