Soundcard Shopping Advice

I am shopping around for a sound card. I was looking at the Creative Sound Blaster Titanium series because of their Creative ALchemy allowing me to use the EAXs for my older games. I wanted to know if this was the best way to go. Is the newer Recon3D any superior? I often see ASUS cards among recommended lists. Are they a better buy? Price range set a few hundred dollars.

A few hundred dollars for a sound card is a great budget. I'd grab an Asus STX, as the Asus cards still support EAX and have their own version of an ALchemy like program that restores hardware accelerated audio.
