Soundcard on Dogz

Recently got a Creative Audio PCI soundcard. Works fine on somewhat complicated (for my computer) games, like Return of the King and Incredibles, so I know it's working. Yesterday I installed "Dogz 5" which requires a Directx 8.1 compatible sound card. When I run the program, it says "sound system did not open, there will be no sound" or something like that. Does Directx 8.1 have some quirk with it that I have to download some driver or something? The program does run without sound, but the kiddies are annoyed...
 
Well, I should have hunted around first...found out that Dogz 5 conflicts with a Windows Service Pack and I had to go in and delete/rename two files. It works fine now.
