Soundcard Compatability with USB 2.0 Headset?

I want to invest in a sound card, but I'm not sure if it will work the way that I want it to. I don't have any speakers for my rig, I just have a Logitech G35 headset that is plugged into one of the front USB 2.0 ports on the top of my case. I'm wondering if my sound quality will increase if I install a sound card, install the drivers for it, and continue to use my G35 plugged into my top case USB port?
 
I believe that when you connect your headset via USB you are using the sound adapter integrated into the headset. The sound card will be useless unless you are connecting the headset to it directly via standard audio jack (3.5mm)
 
USB runs of the CPU. The CPU is providing the signal for the G35 and putting a graphics card in there will give no benefit.
