i'm more or less sure that the sound card and uh...donno what its called...but you connect your mouse and keyboard to it =) Anyway, i'm pretty sure they have nothing in common, but never the less, I will ask to be 100% sure =)

i got a new soundcard, and installed it. as far as i know, i'm pretty sure i didn't alter anything else. i did disconnect all my wires, moved my comp out, opened it up put the soundcard in a pci slot closed it back and connected everything (on a side note, i did reformat right before this, but the reformat was successful and everything was ready to go)

after putting my soundcard in, i set my speakers up and then reconnected everything. At first when i booted up my comp, it got Keyboard error or not present, press f1 to continue.

of course that got a wtf out of me. but i disconnected my keyboard and plugged it back in, pressed f1 and well it continued to load. Then, I got into windows and no keystrokes or mouse movement/clicks were being recognized. I restarted and it got to keyboard error or not present, so i tried pressing f1 but it wouldn't work this time.

After that, I switched them, because i was afraid i may have mixed them up even though they're color coded :D and it loaded up fine, but nothing was recognized.

so i switched it back (to match the colors properly) and it got back to the Keyboard error or not present.

any ideas? :P

maybe this should go under accessories, but considering i just installed a soundcard, i donno if it has anything to do with it or not :P

i'll check replies in the morning, so please excuse me if i don't reply =)

sound card - Creative Sound Blaster X-Fi XtremeMusic Sound Card - Retail ( http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16829102188 )
motherboard - ehm dont really remember and cant be assed to find it :P its foxconn though.
keyboard/mouse - logitech.....probably irrelevent. neither are usb, both are ps/2(mouse through usb -> ps/2 converter, didn't plug it into a usb to see if it works though)

thanks in advance.

The thing you "plug it into" would be part ofyour motherbored. Try a USB keybored.

The only why the sound ard could affect it that i could think of is if while you were installing the sound card you weren't grounded and somehow maanged to shock that part of the motherboard only brekaing the PS/2 port...

hmmm...i woke up was a bit too lazy to try to fix it but finally got around to it now (2;40 pm)

dont know...all i did was unplug the keyboard + mouse and replug them and now it works fine.

if anyone has any possible explanation as to why it didnt work yesterday, i'd be grateful :D

edit: now my computer wont recognize my soundcard =s

ehm. apparently you need to have service package 2....:o

edit; apparently, having service package 2 does absolutely nothing.
