Sound through VGA cable

My friend finally got the official Microsoft VGA cable for the 360, and it seemingly works well and display all it needs to on the monitor.

However, when he uses the adaptor for the sound cables and plugs the 3.5m cable into the headphones - nothing.

What could he be doing wrong?

Should we mess around with the sound settings more or can anyone help?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You cannot just connect an adapter from the rca connectors to headphones, you will need to use that as a line-in on your computer sound card first, or through a tv first, because rca doesnt provide power to devices such as headphones, only a signal that can be amplified by the device.
