sound output problem

hi for the last couple of years i have had a problem with my sound and i have no idea what it is .what happens is that i go onto a sound clip or video and no sound is out puted but my computer recognises the realtek AC'97 audio chip and wen im playing a clip on the speaker volume the sound level thing (i dont know what its call ed but its that little green bar that shows the level of sound biening played) But no sound what so ever is out puted plz help

Go into control panel and check your audio settings and if you do not know how to do it I would suggest you get some one who knows basic computer skills to do this for you.
