Hi I am new to this forum and i am looking to get some help. I have a HP computer and just recently screwed up the speaker output on the back of the computer. I had the headphone jack plugged in and then plugged to my stereo well some how someone broke the plug off inside the jack so i dug it out and now it will not work anymore. I used the jack in the front but its not loud at all and its hard to hear and I got the digital out and in on my computer but when i tried to use it all I get is static and no music or sound. can someone point me in the direction of fixing this, thanks.

Hello dmathews

Welcome to CF

Is this a sound card we are talking about or integrated sound, in other words attached to the motherboard?

The remnants of the broken jack plug need removing from the socket mate.

You may be able to do this with a pair of jewellers tweezers, other than that I suggest you take it to a reputable repair shop where they can do it or re-solder a new part on for you.

I already removed the broken jack. is there not a way to get the digital out to work or the jack in the front to play louder?

The digital out and the 3.5mm jack have really nothing to do with each other as such.

I would suggest that although you think you have removed all remnants you actually haven't.

The front audio output should be same as the rear output in terms of volume and it may well be that the whole sound connector aspect is well and truly damaged.

If the digital out thinks there is still a 3.5mm jack plug inserted then you will have problems mate.

Have you tried altering the output in the Playback tab?

yeah i changed it so that the digital out was the default audio device but still nothing. is there something in the settings that i am not getting or what
