Ok, so I've posted a few threads about my sound issues.
Here's a recap:
** Opened up computer first time ever to install extra hd. Installed fine, hd works fine.
** But from then, I noticed I was only getting sound from one speaker. After borrowing a new set of speakers to determine if something was wrong with the speakers or I messed something up on the inside, I concluded the speakers jack broke off inside the port as when unplugged Speakers1's jack was 1/2 as long as Speakers2's jack, and Speakers2's jack would not plug into that port all the way.
** I tried to extract Speakers1's broken tip of the jack using super glue. The issue was the screwdrivers are super small so the flat area on the tip is not much = might've not been enough area to stick to the jack inside. I used 3 different sized screwdrivers, then I use Speakers2's jack - I figured "it has more of a base on the tip and it definitely reaches the broken part inside." Tried one last thing but that's not relevant for this. Anyway, unsuccessful. Maybe I glued the tip into the port in this process; I've given up trying to extract it.
The point is, Speakers2's jack had glue on it. All over it. I rubbed most of it off with my fingers afterward but I don't know about the consequences of residue on jacks. I have another speakers port on the front of my computer, and this morning I thought to try to plug Speakers2 in there and see what happens (reason I just didn't do this before and tried extracting the broken jack is the port on the front has a headphones symbol above it, so I thought somehow only headphones worked in it).
I get sound, but only from one speaker AT A TIME. Meaning, I plug the jack in 3/4 of the way, I get sound from the left speaker. I fully connect the jack, it switches to the right.
-------------------------
Here are the possibilities:
1. Putting glue on the speaker jack ruined the jack. Or maybe also the port (dried glue falling off into the port after plugging the jack in, and having it in all day? The jack looks a lot cleaner than it did this morning).
2. I messed SOMETHING up on the inside. The reason I suspect this as a possibility is because after I had opened/closed the computer for the first time ever, the other set of speakers was only pumping out sound from ONE speaker as well. The only problem is the jack was broke, so that might be why sound only came out from one speaker. I wasn't able to get sound from the left speaker ever after opening/closing (then again I didn't ever try the 3/4 way in thing, and the speakers are completely dead now after the extraction attempt so I can't test), so... I forgot where I was going with this.
