Sound on my computer not working

Computer experts i need your help. The sound on my computer is not working as i keep receiving a message telling me that there are no active mixer devices available. I have tried uninstalling C-Media AC97 Audio Device and reinstalling it but it does not seem to work. Please any suggestions on how to fix this will be very much appreciated.
